The Girl I Knew Somewhere is a song writen by Michael Nesmith and performed by Micky Dolenz. The song was originally intended to be part of the Monkees' third single before producer Don Kirshner decided to release "A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You" backed with an early version of "She Hangs Out" without seeking approval from the band or from Raybert Productions. After Raybert fired Kirshner, the single was reissued. While "A Little Bit Me" remained the A-side, "Girl I Knew Somewhwere" was added as the B-side.
Despite being part of the Monkees' first recording sessions that resulted in the album Headquarters, the song oddly appears nowhere on that album. "Somewhere" wouldn't appear on any LP until a mail-order album by Laurie House publishers in 1976, an Australian compilation entitled Monkeemania in 1979, and finally a proper stateside LP available in record stores called More Greatest Hits of the Monkees in 1982.
